We can do our very best to avoid toxins (eating clean, switching to natural cleaning/skincare products, creating a holistic medicine cabinet), but at the end of the day there are toxins that we cannot help avoid. Unfortunately toxins are everywhere – food, water, air, mediations, etc. These toxins, if not expelled from our bodies can be very harmful. If you bathe regularly (and I hope you do!), consider switching out one of your normal baths or showers with a detox bath. It’s super simple, relaxing, and you probably already have the ingredients in your home!
All you need is…
- 2 cups epsom salt
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- A few drops of essential oils (optional – see recommendations below)
Why a Detox Bath?
Epsom Salt
- Helps replenish magnesium deficiencies. According to the American Osteopathic Association, up to 50% of the US population is magnesium deficient. Magnesium plays a huge role in our health, including the metabolization of Vitamin D which is vital for our immune system.
- Relieve stress and relaxes the body by helping body to produce hormone serotonin.
- Elevate energy and stamina levels by affecting the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate).
- Ease pain and relieve inflammation
- Epsom salt softens and neutralizes odor skin.
- Aid muscles and nerves function properly by regulating electrolytes in the body
- Help prevent heart disease and strokes by improving blood circulation, lowering blood pressure, protecting the elasticity of arteries, preventing blood clots and reducing the risk of sudden heart attack deaths.
- Increase the effectiveness of insulin in the body, helping to lower the risk or severity of diabetes.
- Relieves constipation by increasing water in the intestines.
- Eliminates toxins from the body by triggering reverse osmosis

*Some people may react poorly to baking soda, so it is recommended to test the effects on a small patch of skin at least 24 hours before taking a baking soda bath.
*If you are pregnant, diabetic, or diagnosed with a heart condition or high blood pressure it is best to consult with your doctor first, as detox baths are not always recommended.
