There are thousands of anti-aging products on the market claiming to reverse the signs of aging. Many of them do work, but most at a hefty price over time.
What we may be overlooking is the anti-aging benefits of water. Water is free and plentiful, and is really one of the only liquids on earth with purifying, reverse-the-clock properties.
Why we need water
How important is water? Just take your average house plant and forget to water it. What begins to happen? Look at it again after you water it and notice the change.
Just like plants, we can’t live without water.
Our bodies are made up of approximately 75 percent water, and our brains are 85 percent water. Every cell in our body needs water to function.
Although water regulates all bodily functions, our bodies can’t store water. If we don’t drink an adequate amount of water, the cells in our body will dehydrate. So, we must drink water frequently and regularly each day.
Anti-aging benefits of water
The secrets of anti-aging begin with water. One of the special benefits of drinking an adequate amount of water is softer, moister skin.
When we don’t drink enough, our skin tells on us, showing signs of dryness, flakiness and tightness. Skin that is dry is less resilient and prone to wrinkling.
Having enough water in the body is essential for retaining moisture in the skin. In fact, to retain moist, soft skin, drinking an adequate amount of water is more important than applying the best topical lotions money can buy.
Water is also necessary for flushing wastes and toxins out of the body. When wastes build up in our cells, the cells begin to deteriorate and even die. And aging results as these tissue cells die.
Tips for staying hydrated
One of the best—and least expensive—anti-aging remedies is staying hydrated. The important thing is to stay consistent.
Drink water regularly, not just when you feel thirsty. Keep a bottle or glass of water near you at all times.
Reach for a glass of water as soon as you wake in the morning to replenish the water loss during sleep. It will also get your circulation going as it flushes all those toxins out of your body.
To stay well-hydrated, drink at least 6 to 8 8-ounce glasses of water daily. In warmer months or if you’re physically active, drink even more.
Simply put, our bodies need the anti-aging benefits of water and lots of it.
